Examination Details

Certification Examination

Aerospace Medicine, Occupational/Environmental Medicine and Public Health examinations consist of the following parts:

  1. A specialty multiple choice examination which consists of one hundred and four (104) multiple choice questions for Aerospace Medicine and one hundred and three (103) multiple choice questions for Occupational/Environmental Medicine. Public Health candidates will not take a specialty multiple choice examination. Each candidate will have two (2) hours to complete the exam.
  2. An essay exam which consists of seven (7) questions and each candidate will pick five (5) questions to answer. Each candidate will have (2) hours to complete the exam.
  3. A core examination which consists of one hundred (100) multiple choice questions. Each candidate will have two (2) hours to complete the exam.
  4. An oral exam which will be forty-five (45) minutes in length.
  5. Resolution 56 candidates will only take an oral exam.

Recertification Examination

Aerospace Medicine, Occupational/Environmental Medicine and Public Health examinations consist of the following parts:

  1. A fifty (50) question specialty multiple choice examination. Each candidate will have two (2) hours to complete the exam.
  2. An essay exam which consists of seven (7) questions; each candidate will be assigned two (2) questions the day of the examination to answer. Each candidate will have two (2) hours to complete the exam. All recertification candidates will receive the essay examination questions thirty (30) days prior to the exam date to study.

Certification of Added Qualifications

Occupational Medicine

  1. A one hundred (100) multiple choice examination. Each candidate will have two (2) hours to complete the exam.
  2. An essay exam which consists of five (5) questions. Each candidate will choose four (4) to answer. Each candidate will have two (2) hours to complete the exam.

Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine

  1. A one hundred and fifty (150) multiple choice examination. Each candidate will have three (3) hours to complete the exam.
