INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS
Two forms of identification (e.g. a driver's license, state-issued ID card with a picture or passport) is required when registering for the examination.
Did you complete an internship or residency at a non-AOA-approved or military institution? Physicians seeking osteopathic board certification must obtain AOA approval of their training. Click here for an application for approval of your internship and residency.
Are you already boarded by the ABMS? Physicians already boarded by the ABPM (American Board of Preventive Medicine) who are seeking osteopathic board certification can apply for eligibility through the AOA. Click here to download the application.
Do you need to contact the AOA for membership information? A requirement for obtaining board eligibility and to maintain active certification with the AOBP is to remain a member in good standing with the American Osteopathic Association. Click here to email the AOA Member Service Center, or here to visit the AOA website.
Do you need to contact the American Osteopathic College of Occupational and Preventive Medicine? Click here to be redirected to their website.
EXAMINATION PREPARATION
The AOBPM often receives inquires about courses or materials to be used in preparing for the exams. At this time, there are no study guides or preparatory courses endorsed by the AOBPM to aid in preparation for the certification or recertification exams. Many good guides and review courses are available to assist the candidate to prepare for the boards. Each has its own relative advantages and disadvantages. Applicants may consider purchasing or enrolling in these guides or courses. There is, of course, no guarantee that the use of these courses or materials will ensure a passing grade. Candidates should prepare for the exam using means they are comfortable and familiar with. Good luck!
