About the AOBPM
The American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine (AOBPM) was established in 1982 upon approval by the Board of Trustees of the American Osteopathic Association. The purposes of the Board are to:
- Define the qualifications to be required of osteopathic physicians for certification in Preventive Medicine, including the subspecialties of Aerospace Medicine, Occupational/Environmental Medicine and Public Health/Community Medicine and of any other specialty or field of practice that may be assigned to this Board.
- Determine the qualifications of osteopathic physicians as specialists for certification in Preventive Medicine, including the subspecialties of Aerospace Medicine, Occupational/Environmental Medicine and Public Health/Community Medicine and of any other specialty or field of practice that may be assigned to this Board.
- Conduct examinations in conformity with the Bylaws, Regulations and Requirements of this Board.
- Issue certificates, subject to the approval of the Bureau of Osteopathic Specialists of the American Osteopathic Association (AOA), to those osteopathic physicians who are found qualified.
- Recommend revocation of certificates for cause.
- Use every means possible to maintain a high standard of specialty practice within the osteopathic profession.

The American Osteopathic Board of Preventive Medicine is composed of nine distinguished osteopathic physicians elected by the AOA Board of Trustees from nominees submitted by the American Osteopathic College of Preventive Medicine (AOCOPM).
